There is also the possibilty that since you have the hands off the clock, you may have the minute hand in the wrong position. If the self-correcting feature is working properly, it will self correct in a couple of hours. If the clock is a modern German one, you can also bring the minute hand up to the hour, let it strike and chime and then move the hands backwards to the correct time. This might explain why you were getting 10 at 9. The clock is self correcting and you are correcting it as well. If before or during either of these procedures you move the hour hand, you will be fighting the self-correcting feature of the clock and it will strike one hour ahead each time. Then forward the hands to the correct time, replace the chime weight and the clock will self correct. The other option it to remove the chime weight. Move the silent lever back to CHIME and the clock will self correct. The simplest is to merely put the clock into SILENT mode and move the hands forward to the correct time. In this situation where there are several hours between actual time and what the dial reads, there are at least two options. Since you dont understand some of the instructions given by others, I will assume that you did not take the movement apart.įrom your question as posted I take it that the clock ran down on it's own or stopped for some reason other than wear and that you did not take the movement apart prior to its stopping. If this were true it would be a nightmare everytime the time was changed or a clock ran down. ![]() Unless you worked on the clock before it stopped, there is no need to take a movement out of the case simply to synchronized the chime and stike. I'm going to go back to your question as you originally posted it. If this is a new clock, you do not need to make any changes to the movement to avoid other problem. Of course, you now need to put the minute hand at the correct position by the pattern of the chime. Since you have the movement out, you can put the hands back to observe it. In the first hour after move the minute hand to ajust the time, you may find that the clock miss chime at one of the 4 points, it is normal. After the move, you have to wait two hours for the clock to reset itself and then, the chime and strick will be in order just fine. You do not have to wait for the chime and hour strick to finish in other point except 12 o'clock. You want to wait until the chime at 12 o'clock runs out and hour strick runs out before you continue to move the minute hand to the correct hour and minute. If I remember it correctly, you can move the minute hand forward until the hour hand approach to 12 o'clock. ![]() Darticus, I have three chime clock with Westerminster chime.
